Today, April 3 is the 118th anniversary of the Cebuano uprising against Spanish rule popularly known as , which began the anti-Spanish revolt in all of Cebu in 1898. The leader of that revolution was Pantaleon Villegas, aka “Leon Kilat,”a Katipunero from Bacong, Negros Oriental, who led a ragtag band of Cebuano Katipuneros from San Nicolas that won the day and forced the Spanish authorities to retreat to Fort San Pedro later in the afternoon.
